Using LinkedIn to Build Your Network

By Jill Scott, Manager of Member Services for The Academy for Private Duty Home Care

Have you been trying to decide on which social media to spend your valuable time and energy? Well, we at Leading Home Care have decided that LinkedIn is where we focus our time and energy. We’ve asked every social media “guru” we encounter if they have any data showing that Facebook or Twitter are generating profit, particularly for home care companies, and none of them have been able to show us the numbers to prove that it’s worth our time to focus on Facebook.  For our target audience, LinkedIn is the best place for us to be.  Further, our data suggests that it is generally the oldest daughter that is making the caregiving decisions about their aging parent(s) and the oldest daughter is usually a professional woman between the ages of 49 and 60. Since LinkedIn is a network of professionals, it may be the best place for you to grow your network of referral sources and potential clients.

A couple weeks ago I attended a live webinar that focused 100% on using LinkedIn to grow your network. Admittedly, I was skeptical about how much content would be given since it was a free webinar, but let me tell you, it was one of the best webinars I’ve ever attended.  The presenter was Josh Turner, the founder of LinkedInU, which is an online membership site dedicated solely to teaching you everything you would ever need to know about using LinkedIn and concrete examples of how you can use it to grow your network and increase your income and web presence.
