I’ve been thinking about How Growing Roses is like Growing Home Care.
The other day I was looking through some You Tube videos from the past to send to a prospective client who is considering having me speak for their annual conference.
I have to admit that I’ve been a bit lax over the years for not capturing enough of my speaking on video. However I’ve recorded a large number of short videos for my blog posts, newsletters, and as invitations to my speaking events. I came across this fun video called “Growing A Blooming Home Care Company.” It uses the metaphor of growing roses to make some key points about growing your Home Care business.
Growing beautiful roses year after year is about cutting away the dead wood, preparing the soil, feeding, watering, and harvesting. My wife, Elizabeth, loves having fresh flowers in our kitchen, and it’s even better when they are flowers that we have grown.
I invite you to take two and a half minutes to sit back, relax, and smell the roses, and watch the video while you think about how this relates to growing your Home Care business.
Growing Home Care is like Growing Roses
You saw in the video the illustration of how growing Home Care is like growing roses. It requires preparing, pruning, watering, feeding, and harvesting.
The preparing and pruning and feeding are a lot like the training and the coaching and the developing of your people. It takes time, effort, patience, and investment. It doesn’t happen overnight. But the work and the wait are worthwhile.
I was having breakfast with the co-founder of one of our Top 5% Mastermind Groups two Saturday’s ago, and we talked about all that he and his two sons have done to create, form, and grow their Home Care Company. They have become one of the largest, most profitable private pay companies in the country. We reminisced about how they started their business from scratch, and all they did over the years to develop their team, nurture their Referral Partners, and attract wonderful caregivers.
It’s Time to Prune The Roses
I was out in my rose garden the other day, and realized that I needed to prune back my bushes so that the wind would not break them off over the winter. About this time each year, I trim off the long branches which have leaves and rose blooms left on then. Then in the spring, I come back and cut them back even further.
As we move into fall and begin thinking about next year, it may be time to do some pruning in your Home Care business. What are the things you need to stop doing in order to make space for new things to scale your business? Are there some people who are no longer able to grow at the same pace as the rest of the business.
Pruning away the dead wood is as important to growing a successful Home Care company as it is to growing lovely rose bushes.
